About Mello-Roos

I never really understood the term “Mello-Roos.” All I knew was, as a prospective home buyer ofer the last decade, a property with Mello-Roos would cost me more money than a home without it. That didn’t seem like a good thing, so I avoided any prospects with those strings attached.

But the extra amount added to your annual property tax bill to live in a Mello-Roos “Community Facilities District” – or CFD – shouldn’t be reason to run from the home of your dreams. In fact, its purpose since becoming law in 1983 has been to provide residents with all the amenities and public facilities that keep the community and quality of life attractive and desirable.
