NOTE: Keep track of your moving expenses as some may be tax deductible.
Begin about 6 to 8 weeks before you anticipate moving:
- Research moving companies and obtain an estimate.
- Start discarding items that you will not be moving! Garage sale time!
- Inform your business place of the address change for their mailings, i.e. W-2 forms.
- Request a transcript from your child’s school (only if moving to a new district.)
- Begin looking into places of worship for a trasfer.
- Start collecting boxes.
- Clean draperies (if taking and pack them for protection.
Notify the follwing agencies/people/companies of your move. If applicable, contact new area services to set up utilities:

Telephone – be sure to keep your telephone active through moving day!

Other insurance

Financial adviser

Lawyer

Store where you have charge accounts

DMV

Book or record clubs

Post Office – leave a forwarding addres
When you arrive at your new home:

Check the telephone, gas, electricity, and water.

Check the pilot light for your hot water heater and other applicable appliances.

Register to vote.
-
Register your car with a new state within 5 days.

Obtain a new driver’s license or change of address through the DMV.
